The Great Closet Rebellion - If I Can't Sit Down In It, I'm Not Wearing It

We need to talk about the fall wardrobe and the absolute scam we have been sold.

For decades, we were told that looking good required suffering. Squeeze into this. Suck in that. Tuck, pin, tape, and hold your breath until you get home. We wore jeans that left marks on our bodies like a topographical map and called it fashion.

I am officially declaring that era over. Dead. Canceled. We are not doing it anymore.

If I can't sit down in it, eat lunch in it, and chase down a rogue shopping cart in a parking lot without dislocating something, I am not wearing it. If it requires a special undergarment engineered by NASA to make it look right, it does not deserve to live in my closet.

We did our time. We did the low-rise jeans in the 2000s that made us fear sneezing. We did the bodycon dresses that required us to stand perfectly still like a mannequin all night. We did the heels that made our toes file for divorce. We have earned the right to be comfortable and still be the hottest ones in the room.

Comfort is not letting yourself go. Comfort is the trophy you get after 30 years of pretending that Spanx was a personality trait.

This fall, my uniform is simple: wide-leg pants that actually let air circulate, soft fabrics that don't itch, shoes I can actually walk in, and a bra that doesn't feel like it was designed by someone who has never had boobs.

And if anyone has something to say about it? They can take it up with my Gen-X resting unimpressed face. We wore shoulder pads in the 80s. We survived frosted tips and JNCO jeans. We do not need fashion advice from anyone.

If it feels good, it looks good. If it pinches, it goes in the donation bag. No guilt, no second-guessing.

We are not shrinking ourselves to fit into clothes anymore. The clothes need to fit us and our very full, very unbothered lives.

Keep thriving.

💭 Reflection: What is one item in your closet right now that you are keeping out of guilt, and what are you replacing it with that actually feels good?
