The Chin Hair That Arrived With Confidence
We need to talk about the facial hair situation, because no one warned us and frankly, I feel ambushed.
You go to bed feeling cute, moisturized, minding your own business. You wake up, you look in the mirror, and there it is. A single, thick, wiry chin hair that was absolutely not there 8 hours ago, standing at full attention like it pays rent here.
And it is not shy. It is not a soft little peach fuzz situation. It is a wire. A cable. A full-on fishing line that showed up overnight with zero invitation and maximum audacity.
Where did it come from? How did it grow two inches while you were sleeping? Why does it have the structural integrity of a bridge cable? These are questions science cannot answer.
And it is never just one. Oh no. There is the chin hair, its cousin the mustache that only appears in brutal direct sunlight, and that one rogue eyebrow hair that grows straight up like it is trying to get better cell reception. They are a little girl gang and they are not subtle.
We spent our entire twenties and thirties plucking, waxing, lasering, and trying to be hairless like a dolphin. Now in our fifties, our scalp is like, "I'm going to thin out for fun," while our chin is like, "Don't worry, I got you. I will now be growing a beard to compensate."
The betrayal is personal.
I have tweezers in every room now. In my purse, in my car, on my nightstand. I have become a woman who inspects her chin in the reflection of a spoon at a restaurant. And I know you do too, because we are all doing covert surveillance on our own faces.
So if you found one today, welcome. You are not alone. You are not turning into anyone else. You are just a woman whose estrogen left the chat and whose chin decided to start a new career as a Brillo pad.
Pluck it, ignore it, bleach it, name it - whatever you want. Just know we all have one, and we are all pretending we don't see each other's in the group photo.
Keep thriving.
