Injured in the Line of Doing Absolutely Nothing

We need to talk about the sheer audacity of the midlife physical form.

Think back to our youth for a moment. We could fall off a bicycle onto concrete, sleep on a deflated air mattress at a music festival, or dance in questionable shoes for six hours straight, and wake up the next morning completely fine. Our bodies were resilient, elastic, and practically indestructible.

Fast forward to today, and I am currently managing a shoulder injury that I sustained from... sleeping slightly too hard on my left side.

We have officially entered the era where you can pull a muscle by sneezing too aggressively while driving, throw your back out by reaching for a dropped pen, or wake up with a mysterious knee brace requirement simply because you checked your blind spot too quickly. We aren't getting injured while doing extreme sports; we are getting taken out by the mundane acts of daily survival.

Getting older is a trip, but managing the daily betrayal of your own joints requires a healthy dose of humor.

If you are currently nursing a mystery ailment that you acquired while literally sitting still, don't panic. Put on the heating pad, grab your favorite ice pack, and wear that compression sleeve like a badge of honor. We survived the wild days of our youth; we will survive the dangerous act of waking up in the morning.

Keep thriving.

💭 Reflection: What is the most ridiculous, entirely unprovoked way you’ve managed to injure yourself recently, and how are you proudly nursing it today?
