The "Should" Detox
"Should" is easily the heaviest, most exhausting word in the English language.
I should dress more my age. I should go to that neighborhood event. I should be further along by now. I should keep my mouth shut.
We have carried around a massive, invisible backpack full of "shoulds" for our entire adult lives. They are rarely our own desires; they are almost always the expectations of society, our families, or the ghosts of who we thought we were supposed to be.
Midlife is the era of the "Should" Detox.
Every time you catch yourself saying you "should" do something, I challenge you to pause and ask yourself a very simple question: Who actually decided that?
If it doesn't align with your values, your peace, or your current reality, drop it. Erase the word from your vocabulary. Replace it with what you actually want to do, what you actually need to do for your own well-being, and what genuinely brings you joy.
You have lived enough life to stop making decisions based on imaginary rulebooks. Unload the backpack, drop the obligations that don't belong to you, and start living on your own terms.
Keep thriving.
